CoSync Toolkit: Browser Tasks and Study Logging for Dyadic Collaboration Research — Anonymous Review Edition

Listed in ZivaHub and Deakin Research Online and DMU Figshare — shown once because both records carry DOI 10.6084/m9.figshare.34039062.v1

CoSync is a research toolkit for running video-mediated dyadic collaboration tasks and recording experimenter-controlled session timing.

Description

It provides six task paradigms through seven browser variants: Asymmetric Communication with symbol and emoji variants, Joint Music, Mirror Game, Collaborative Navigation, Collaborative Story Writing, and Collaborative Tangram. The study uses role reversals in Mirror Game and Asymmetric Communication and Free and Collaborative Music conditions.

The software package includes task frontends and Python backends, a task launcher, a manual Study Logger, shared backend utilities, setup scripts, Docker configuration, operating documentation, and software tests.

A separate EEG receiver is included for compatible Lab Streaming Layer streams. The Study Logger supports pseudonymous dyad identifiers, manually started and stopped condition timing, and JSON and CSV exports. Individual task applications provide their own task-record exports.

For local execution, extract the archive, open a terminal in CoSync_Toolkit, run “docker compose up --build”, and open localhost:3000.

Source installation requires Python 3.10 or later and Node.js 20 or later. Please read README.html for setup, task configuration, data exports, and operating details. Follow the manuscript's three-minute Conversation baseline; the bundled console currently displays a two-minute default, and timing is manual.

External sensor and audiovisual acquisition operate separately.

The toolkit does not automatically combine all recordings or run the manuscript's statistical analyses; the participant dataset and analysis materials are supplied in a separate repository item. The toolkit software is distributed under the included MIT license, which does not grant rights over participant data, questionnaire instruments, or third-party materials. This repository item accompanies the manuscript “CoSync: A Multimodal Toolkit and Dataset for Interpersonal Synchrony Research in Dyadic Collaboration.”
