This study focuses on online cultural tourism communities, with data obtained from the Ctrip travel platform.
Description
As one of China's largest tourism information-sharing platforms, Ctrip hosts a highly active online community and a large volume of ratings and reviews, making it an appropriate data source for studying online cultural tourism communities[16]. Through stratified random sampling of 5A-rated scenic spots across provinces, 100 scenic spots were selected as the final sample.
A web-crawling tool was used to collect Ctrip review data for these scenic spots, including user comments and ratings, yielding 242,766 reviews. The crawled data included user nicknames, review content, and user ratings. Because very short reviews are prone to analytical error and have limited research value, reviews containing fewer than 100 characters were excluded.

After text cleaning and noise removal, 10,420 user reviews remained. Descriptive statistics were then calculated by region and attraction typeSpecifically, the southeastern region is relatively more economically developed and has the largest number of modern entertainment and cultural heritage attractions, whereas the western region has a comparatively stronger natural environment and thus the largest number of natural landscape attractions.
In terms of review volume, attractions in the southeastern region received the most reviews, and far exceeding the numbers in other regions. The average ratings for attractions across all regions and categories exceeded 4.5 out of 5, with attractions in the southeastern region and in the modern entertainment category receiving slightly higher scores than others.
