Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center (EARDC), Aquifer Biodiversity Collection

Listed in GBIF

The Aquifer Biodiversity Collection is a physical repository and digitized data for preserved animals collected from groundwater and groundwater-dependent habitats, primarily in Texas, with smaller numbers of taxa from Mexico and other U.S. states.

Description

Lots are primarily ethanol-preserved invertebrate specimens, especially Crustacea, with smaller numbers of vertebrates and soft-bodied organisms (e.g., Gastropoda, Annelida, Nematoda, Cnidaria) often only identified at a coarse taxonomic level.

In addition to ethanol preserved specimens (mostly 95%), the collection includes slide-mounted specimens and some ethanol preserved specimens in freezers at 0°C. Lots include collections from 1965 through the present, from springs, seeps, caves, wells, spring runs, rivers (especially the hyporheic zone) and ciénegas. The Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center is an aquifer ecology research center, water-quality analysis lab, and education program within the College of Science and Engineering at Texas State University, San Marcos Texas.
