Employees\' Attitudes and Behaviors under the Nonstandard Employment Relations

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

Contingent work arrangements, known as temporary work, part-time work, contract work, short-term employment etc. have been recognized as one of the strategies to increase firms’ flexibility and competitive advantage.

Description

The purpose of this study is to investigate the employee’s attitude and behavior under different work arrangements, and also examine the influence of psychological contract fulfillment on employees. The results suggested the contingent workers had less expectation of employers’ obligation (i.e. psychological contract), and performed less organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs), but had higher affective commitment to the organizations.

The moderating effect of work status was also found to be statistically significant on the relationship between the fulfillment of psychological contract and the affective commitment. The research and management implications are discussed at the end.
