Functional Materials from Residual Carbon in Gasification Fine Slag: Design, Synthesis and its Application in Electrocatalysts

Listed in ZivaHub

Gasification fine slag (GFS), an industrial byproduct rich in carbon and silicon species, remains underutilized.

Description

This thesis develops sustainable strategies to upcycle GFS-derived carbon (GSC) into electrocatalysts for water splitting. GSC was first used as a low-cost support for Co/Mo selenide bifunctional catalysts for water splitting reactions.

A rapid direct current arc-discharge method was then established to synthesize Pt single-atom catalysts. Finally, GSC served as a carbon–silicon precursor to construct Si-decorated Pt single-atom catalysts, which delivered outstanding hydrogen production activity and stable water electrolysis operation over 1600 h, demonstrating a viable route for waste valorization and low-Pt catalyst design.
