Replication data for ig 14.10, UPDs, males and females, survivorship vs body mass (X2), 08 March 2026

Listed in data.InDoRES

This file created from SYSTAT file = Utahwts, which was created in November 2017 The SYSTAT file had no information on eartags or Nyanzol markers.

Description

Each JLH number is for a specific UPD. I consider data from the same UPD in different years to be independent.

Note in office indicates that this file was checked TWO TIMES at creation I cannot figure out the identity of UPDs with designation of 629 and 630. So I ignore these cases. Data from UPDs from Lower Horse Colony are NOT in this EXCEL file.

Survivorship = 0 = UPD did NOT survive until next mating season in March or early April Survivorship = 1 = UPD DID survive until next mating season in March or early April Note that I did not use UPD designations of 228 and 399 for JLH number in this file These omissions were simple omissions of entering data--of no significance. Everything in this file has now been checked TWO TIMES on 16 Sept 2020 OLDName of file = UPDs, body mass vs survivorship, 16 Sept 2020 Note on 25 Aug 2021: Body mass during mating season= body mass in year of reproduction; Body mass as juvenile body mass in previous May = body mass of SAME UPD when it was a juveniule in previous year.

So, Body mass during mating season in 1996, and Body mass at first juvenile emergences in 1996 is matched with Body mass as juvenile in 1995. Confusing. Be careful here.

Sex = 1 = male, and Sex = 2 = female Missing data from this file: RR8 (F95) March 2005, lac fem 95 (H05) March 2005, possibly lac but not sure 74 (S11), June 2005, TDF = teats Tiny, Dry, and Flat = did not give birth and probably did not conceive On 25 Oct 2021, I verify that Body mass at first juvenile emergences for H2 (C87) in 1997 is correct. Problem with this file discovered on 17 March 2022: This file shows Survivorship = 0 for all UPD adults weighed in 2005.

That is wrong. I will revise this file with better data for survivorship for UPD adults weighed in 2005. I DO have some survivorship data, because several UPD adults in 2005 disappeared or were captured by fox or goshawk.

So, if UPD adult disappeared or died or was taken by predator in 2005, then I score survivorship = 0. If the UPD was still alive at end of 2005 field season, then I cannot score survivorship until 2006. So for these latter UPD adults, I score survivorship as (.) = missing data.

For this revision, I show eartags for UPD adults in 2005, but not for earlier years Date = 17 March 2022 New name for this file = UPDs, body mass vs survivorship, 17 March 2022 Note addition of new variable = Eartag for this file for only those UPDs weighed in 2005 On 17 March 2022, I enter survivorship data for UPD adults alive in spring 2005, as described above. On 17 March 2022, I correct one body mass for 74 (S11).

On 17 March 2022, I add Body mass during mating season for RR8 (F95) and 95 (H05). Both were weighed on 14 April 2005. On 17 March 2022, I add one new case: R44 (H11), Body mass during mating season= 608, No body mass at first juvenile emergence R44 was a 1-year old Immigrant from Lower Horse Colony who was captured by Goshawk in early April 2005 On 17 March 2022, I check all entries for year = 2005.

Note additions and changes above File name is now UPDs, Body mass vs survivorship, 17 March 2022 All data in this UPD file from the Horse Corral Colony at Bryce Canyon National Park These data used for Figure 14.10 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 08 March 2025. The number above each circle in Fig 14.10 indicates the number of UPD males weighed and then tracked for survivorship.

Survivorship = 0 = UPD male or female did NOT survive until the next mating season Survivorship = 1 = UPD male or female DID survive until the next mating season Wt = weight = body mass All body masses in GRAMS. JLH number = UPD designation from early file when I did not use eartags Marker = Nyanzol dye marker to identify UPD from a distance Age = years since first emergence from natal burrow entrance Sex = 1 = male Sex= 2 = Female Adult body mass during mating season = Marchwt in some older files Adult body mass at first juvenile emergences in Junewt in some older files This EXCEL file contains information that I do not use in Fig 14.10 (e.g., info on females, ages, year) File name = Fig 14.10, UPDs, males and females, survivorship vs body mass (X2), 08 March 2026
