BTPDs GPDs UPDs Percentage of male killers that were residents 0% 75% 83.82% Percentage of male killers that were invaders 100% 25% 16.18% FILE DESCRIPTION Keywords: BGU, Male killers vs residency in territory of infanticide File name: Fig 21.8, BGU, Male killers that were residents of the home territory vs. invaders from a different territory, 28 July 2026 OLDFile name: Fig 21.8, BGU, Male killers that were residents of the home territory vs. invaders from a different territory, 16 April 2025.
As seen here, BTPD male killers were always invaders from a different territory, but GPD male killers and UPD male killers were usually sexually mature or sexually immature residents of the home territory. These data used for Fig 21.8 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 16 April 2025.

I considered data from the same infanticidal prairie dog male in different years to be independent. Resident male = male that lived in home territory at time when juvenile was killed = Resmale. Invader male = male that did NOT live in home territory at time when juvenile was killed; Invader lived in a different territory.
Data for BTPDs and UPDs are from single study-colonies, but data from GPDs are from three study-areas in three different colonies described below, Details of the BTPD and UPD study-colonies and details of the GPD study areas are in Chapters 4, 11, and 21. The percentage of BTPD killers that were residents was 0% (0/39). I show a small bar for this percentage to indicate that I looked for such killings by BTPD resident males, but observed none.
I observed no infanticides by either sex for WTPDs--so I have not shown WTPDs in Fig 21.8 or 21.9. The percentages of male killers in this figure are SUMMARIES of data from different sources. I cannot find the Raw Data summaries that I used for Fig 21.8, but I checked all summaries in this EXCEL files TWO TIMES.
A juvenile prairie dog was still unweaned in its natal nursery-burrow, or first emerged from the natal nursery-burrow ≤6 months before the time of killing. GPD Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC) was within Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP) in New Mexico. I studied GPDs at RMC from 2013 through 2016, when plague killed most adult and juvenile residents.
GPD Visitor Center Colony (VCC, studied in 2017 and 2018) was also at VCNP. GPD colony at Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO) was studied from 1989 through 1995. File name: Fig 21.8, BGU, Male killers that were residents of the home territory vs. invaders from a different territory, 28 July 2026
