Listed in Borealis
Data access is available upon request for UCalgary staff, faculty, and students for educational and research purposes.
Description
The Saskatchewan Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Land Sales Spatial Data contains records of agricultural land sales by the CPR to settlers in Saskatchewan from 1881 to 1921. The dataset includes the name of the purchaser, the legal description of the land (e.g., NW-03-045-24-W4), the number of acres purchased, and the cost per acre.
This is one of three provincial spatial datasets in the collection, alongside corresponding Alberta and Manitoba datasets, with legal land descriptions linked to corresponding spatial boundaries. A non-spatial tabular dataset containing the same underlying records is also available. These records were transcribed from the original CPR Land Sales ledgers by volunteers from the Glenbow Archives and later enhanced by Archives and Special Collections at UCalgary.

The completeness and accuracy of the dataset cannot be guaranteed, and researchers are encouraged to verify all details. The original ledgers are available for consultation at UCalgary Archives and Special Collections. An interactive web application for exploring the spatial dataset is available through the CPR Land Sales (web app).
