Temporal stability of aboveground biomass and productivity in temperate forest in northeast China

Listed in ScienceDB

These data were collected from two permanent temperate forest plots in northeastern China.

Description

The dataset includes the temporal stability of aboveground biomass and productivity, as well as aboveground structural diversity, leaf trait diversity, root trait diversity, soil fertility, among-species asynchrony, and within-species stability in a 5-ha young-growth forest plot and a 25-ha old-growth forest plot.Censuses of the 5-ha young-growth forest plot were conducted in 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2021, while the 25-ha old-growth forest plot was censused in 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019.

In each census, all woody individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 1 cm were identified to species, tagged, measured, and mapped. Species-specific allometric equations were used to estimate aboveground biomass for each living individual across census periods. Each forest plot was subdivided into 20 m × 20 m quadrats. For each quadrat, standing aboveground biomass was calculated in Mg ha⁻¹, and aboveground productivity was calculated in Mg ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹.
