The Ochodaeidae of Israel: A taxonomic review with key to species and updated distribution (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea)

Faunitaxys (London, England) 13 (29): 1-8, DOI: 10.57800/faunitaxys-13(29), URL: dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15933344 Abstract. – The Ochodaeidae fauna of Israel is reviewed, with three valid species recognized: Ochodaeus (Ochodaeus) berytensis Petrovitz, 1965, O. (O.) gigas Marseul, 1878, and O. (Diplochodaeus) alleonis Fairmaire, 1884.

Previous records of O. cornifrons Solsky, 1876 and O. inscutellaris Pic, 1900 are now considered misidentifications: the former is restricted to Central Asian mountains, while the latter was recently synonymized with O. alleonis (Huchet & Hillert, 2025). A revised species list is presented, along with an identification key and updated distribution map. Preliminary observations indicate that these species exhibit contrasting diel activity patterns, from strict nocturnality to predominant diurnality.
