Appendix for Engineering Ethics Research

Listed in ScienceDB

This dataset contains the raw survey data and statistical analysis results underlying the study on engineering ethics cognition among environmental engineering students across different academic stages. The dataset is organized into two main parts:1.

Description

Appendix A: Raw Survey DataThe survey instrument consists of five validated measurement scales administered to four student cohorts (Phase I–IV, representing Freshmen to Seniors):FESJ (Fundamentals of Engineering and Scenario Judgment): 13 single-choice scenario-based questions assessing professional ethical decision-making in environmental engineering contexts.

Scoring was dichotomous (Correct = 1, Incorrect = 0).M&R (Morality and Regulation): 17 items measured on a 5-point Likert scale evaluating moral disengagement and attitudes toward regulatory compliance.EP (Engineering Practice): 7 core engineering considerations (Technical, Environmental, Social, Economic, Health & Safety, Feasibility, and Ethics) rated on a 5-point Likert scale, followed by importance ranking tasks.ME (Macro-Ethics): 4 items assessing broader societal responsibilities of engineers using a 5-point Likert scale.SP (Social Participation): 9 dimensions of pro-environmental social engagement evaluated on a 4-point Likert scale. For each item, the dataset reports the frequency distribution of responses across the four academic phases, including valid response counts.2.

Appendix B: Statistical Analysis ResultsThis section presents the quantitative analysis outputs:Descriptive statistics (Mean scores, Standard Deviations, Accuracy Rates).One-way ANOVA results for FESJ scores, including effect sizes (η2) and Bonferroni-corrected pairwise comparisons.Reliability analysis (Cronbach’s α) for the M&R scale.Non-parametric test results, including Wilcoxon rank-sum tests and Kruskal-Wallis H tests, with Bonferroni corrections for multiple comparisons.Cognitive characteristic interpretations for Macro-Ethics items across different academic years.Sample InformationPhase I: Freshmen (n = 21)Phase II: Sophomores (n = 47)Phase III: Juniors (n = 81)Phase IV: Seniors (n = 25)Total Valid Responses: 174This dataset supports research in engineering ethics education, moral psychology, and the development of professional responsibility curricula in environmental engineering.
