<p dir="ltr">This folder contains the data and R code associated with our manuscript, "<i>Using webcam observations to assess wintering waterbird commensal associations with swans</i>".
Description
This folder contains three files:</p><p><br></p><p dir="ltr">1) "Commensal associations analysis.R"<br>This file contains the R code that was used to analyse our data, as described in our manuscript. In order to run the analyses on the numbers of commensal waterbirds associating with swans, the code requires the two data files (i.e. file #2 and #3 mentioned below).
The R file also contains the behavioural data on the proportions of waterbirds observed to engage in each type of behaviour, as well as the data used in the correlation analyses described in the paper.</p><p><br></p><p dir="ltr">2) "CommensalNumbers.csv"<br>This csv file contains the data on the numbers of commensal waterbirds associated with swans during each of our observations. These data were used to address our key questions related to the variation in the numbers of waterbirds associating with swans (i) over time and (ii) among different swan species and age classes.

The csv file contains seven columns: (A) the number of commensal waterbirds observed associating with the focal swan; (B) the species of focal swan; (C) the age class of focal swan, either 'adult' or 'cygnet' (i.e. first winter juvenile); (D) the site at which the observation was made, either Slimbridge or Caerlaverock; (E) the month of observation; (F) the winter of observation; (G) the time of day in which the observation was made.
Further details on the collection and treatment of the data are given in the manuscript.</p><p dir="ltr"><br></p><p dir="ltr">3) "Mute.Swan.Data.csv"<br>This csv file contains the data on the numbers of commensal waterbirds associated with Mute Swans during each of our observations. These data were used in our sub-analysis of the variation in the numbers of waterbirds associating with Mute Swans (i) over time and (ii) among different swan species and age classes.
