Dataset for "Microstructural Changes of Liquid Metal Bi Electrode Investigated by X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy"

Listed in ScienceDB

This dataset contains the primary experimental data supporting the study on the atomic-scale structural evolution and phase transition mechanisms of the Bi cathode in Na-Bi liquid metal batteries.

Description

The data generation process involved assembling Na|LiCl-NaCl-KCl|Bi liquid metal batteries in an argon-filled glovebox (Mikrouna, China) and conducting electrochemical tests using a LAND battery test system (CT3004K). The batteries were operated at 480 ℃ and discharged to specific depths (10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%) to extract the Bi electrode samples.

Additionally, control samples of Na-Bi alloys with various molar ratios were synthesized via a high-temperature melting method at 480 ℃. Since this is fundamental laboratory characterization data, specific geographical spatial and temporal resolution information is not applicable. The characterization and data processing steps utilized specific high-precision equipment. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were performed using a Bruker D8 Advance diffractometer (Cu Kα radiation, λ=1.54184 nm, 40 kV, 40 mA) with a scanning range of 10° to 80°.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) data at the Bi L3-edge were collected using a Lytle detector at the BL20U1 beamline of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). The raw XAS data underwent background subtraction, energy calibration, normalization, and EXAFS fitting. The dataset is complete with no missing values, and standard instrumental baseline calibrations were applied to minimize analytical errors. The dataset files are categorized into two main groups.

The first group contains the XRD raw data files for both the discharged Bi electrodes and the Na-Bi alloy control samples. The second group contains the XAS data files, including normalized absorption spectra and EXAFS fitting project files. The XAS project files (e.g., .prj format) require specialized software for viewing and analysis.

Users can process these specific files using the Demeter software package (including Athena and Artemis modules), which can be officially downloaded at: bruceravel.github.io/demeter/
