Theory Construction and Hypotheses Testing on Work Motivation(II)

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The major purpose of this two-year research project is to develop an integrated work motivation theory.

Description

Based on results of some prior exploratory studies, the researcher first developed a conceptual framework and some working hypotheses. During the first year , 13 inventories were developed and pretested.

Those inventories were used to collect large sample data in the second year. Subjects were business employees, the total sample size of this two-year project was 1111. Data were first analyzed by using Principal Components Analyses and Varimax rotations, results support the prior conceptual framework.

Based on factor analysis results, some short versions of those inventories were developed, the range of their internal consistent coefficients from .69 to .95,with a median of.81. The further path analysis results also support the serial-causal model in the prior conceptual framework. All of those results indicate that the measurements quality and hypotheses testing of the prior theoretical framework are quite satisfied.

Future studies should focus more on the conceptual meaning interpretation and practical applications.
