Replication data for Fig 14.14, GPDs, Females and males, Adult body mass at mating vs weaning, 09 May 2026
Listed in data.InDoRES
Body mass when juveniles were emerging from natal nursery-burrows = body mass just before, during, or just after period with juveniles were first appearing aboveground.
Description
All body masses for mating season and when juveniles were emerging are from 1993. These data used for Fig 14.14 in Hoogland 2026.
Data in this 1993 EXCEL file are from 1993 only; cumulative data from all years were also statistically significant for both males and females Adult body masses include information from 1-year olds (yearlings) and >=2-year olds Age = number of years since first emergence from natal nursery-burrows All body masses are in GRAMS. This EXCEL file ready for longterm storage on 07 May 2025. These data used for Fig 14.14 in Hoogland 2026.

I defined mating season as the time interval between (and including) first copulation and last copulation Data on the same line are from the SAME GPD Blank cell or <.> means missing data. I created this file by selecting data from file = GPDs, Adult wt vs survivorship, 11 Sept 2020 I checked these data two times during week of 01 Sept 2000. All data here from PEFO--no data from RMC or VCC OLDFile name = GPDs, Adult wt vs survivorship, 11 Sept 2020 This file started with file = GPDs, PEFO bodywts from Julia Phillip, 10 Aug 2020 In general I did not use any weights after 15 April in any year for body mass at mating.
In a few cases, however, I used data for a few days after 15 April. I did NOT use data from females that were obviously far along in pregnancy (e.g., med teats)-- or but for NO males that copulated. I did use a few weights for a few nonbreeding yearling males and for a few females that were NOT far along in pregnancy (e.g., no teats, tiny teats, or small teats).
Similarly, in general I did not use any weights before 15 May in an year. In a few cases, however, I use data a few days before 15 May. I cannot figure out the identity of the dog with eartag = A48A in 1994.
So I ignore this GPD. In 1994, I marked two GPD females with marker = 68. For this EXCEL file, I call one 68#1 (Q1-Q3, Q2; and the other 68#2 (S75, S76) This file has been checked two times by JLH over week of 01 Sept 2020.
On 11 Sept 2020, this file has now been checked TWO TIMES--ready for analyses. On 15 June 2020, body mass for Fem-113 (W37, W38) for wt>15 May changed from 590 to 620 (Line 1292)--verified on 26 Feb 2022 I do not add new data for Fem-142 (T91, T92) because ID here is not certain--verified on 26 Feb 2022 I DID add data for Fem-142 (T91, (21) for comparison of June body mass vs litter--verified on 26 Feb 2022 or no litter, because positive ID for survivorship not need for that analysis.
All data here from PEFO--no data from RMC or VCC Note on 13 Sept 2020: I must add data from RR3 (H53) from 1992-- change verified on 26 Feb 2022 Watch for possible confusion with case 699 (C14#2, U23, U24) Note on 13 Sept 2020: I also must add data from female-64 (J87 goes to M21) for 1992--verified on 26 Feb 2022 Changes for W37, T91, H53, and J87 all verified on 22 Feb 2022. Notes on 16 March 2022 GPD-RR3 (H53) IS in this file, but was listed as MALE in Sept 2020.
On 16 March 2022, I change sex to Female GPD Female-64 (J87 goes to M21) IS in this EXCEL file. GPD Male (R52) 183A IS in this EXCEL file, but sex was wrong. On 16 March 2022, I change sex to Male.
OLDfile name on 16 March 2022 after above corrections: GPDs, Adult wt vs survivorship, 16 March 2022 This file started with file = GPDs, PEFO bodywts from Julia Phillip, 10 Aug 2020 If we first marked a GPD of unknown age and it lived for >=4 years, I assigned an age of 3 for the third year and an age of 4 for the 4th year. I did NOT assign an age for the first or second year. In general I did not use any weights after 15 April in any year.
In a few cases, however, I used data for a few days after 15 April. I did NOT use data from females that were obviously far along in pregnancy (e.g., med teats) or for any males that copulated. PEFO = Petrified Forest National Park, where I studied GPDs from 1989 through 1995 RMC (Redondo Meadow Colony) and VCC (Visitor Center Colony) were both at Valles Caldera National Preserve I will use this file to compare GPD adult body masses during the mating season (<=15 April) vs GPD adult body masses at first juvenile emergences (>=15 May), see above for exceptions. Body mass at mating = body mass just before, during, or just after mating season in February through mid-March In general I did not use any weights after 15 April in any year for body mass at mating.
In a few cases, however, I used data for a few days after 15 April. I did NOT use data from females that were obviously far along in pregnancy (e.g., med teats)-- but for NO males that copulated.
