For Copepoda: Classification based on Williamson and Reid (2001). Genus nomenclature follows Dussart and Defaye (2002) for calanoids and Hudson et al. (1998) for cyclopoids. Other classifications list Crustacea as Class, with Copepoda as Subclass (Great Lakes Science Center webpage).

Data on provincial distributions and abundance are more available for Calanoida (primarily pelagic species) than for Cyclopoida (pelagic/littoral species), while little is known about Harpacticoida (small, littoral species).
