Field-measured wind field and CFD validation dataset for poplar shelterbelts

The field experiment was conducted from 14:32 to 15:00 on 14 September 2021 around two well-preserved poplar shelterbelts in a flat rice farmland in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China.Four observation points were arranged around the shelterbelts, including one windward point and three leeward points, together with one open-exposure control point.

Wind speed and wind direction were recorded at 1.5 m above ground using BENETECH GT8907 anemometers at a frequency of 1 Hz for 28 min.The raw wind-speed records were synchronized and averaged over several time windows, including 1-min averages, 1–10 min, 11–20 min, 21–28 min, and the full 28-min period. CFD simulations used the corresponding average wind speed at the open control point as inlet wind speed, and simulated wind speeds were extracted at the same locations as the field observation points.Wind speed is reported in m s⁻¹ and distance in m.
