High-efficiency Water and Fertilizer Utilization Technology

Listed in ScienceDB

This dataset integrates experimental data from three research papers published in the international journal Plant and Soil (2024), the Chinese core journal Journal of Applied Ecology (2024), and Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystems (2025).

Description

All three studies focus on the Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) technology through the application of silicate mineral (Wollastonite) powder in agricultural fields, conducting field-controlled experiments over one growing season (approximately 5 months) in typical paddy and soybean fields in Northeast China (Liaoning Province).

The core parameters of the dataset include: grain and straw yield of rice/soybean, yield components (e.g., tiller number, grains per panicle), grain quality indicators (protein, starch, sugar), silicon (Si), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg) content in plants and soil, soil physicochemical properties (pH, available silicon, exchangeable calcium and magnesium, microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen), contents of various soil carbon forms (total carbon, organic carbon, inorganic carbon, dissolved carbon, phytolith-occluded carbon), and the enrichment of toxic trace elements (arsenic, cadmium) in both edible parts (grain) and non-edible parts (straw) of the crops.

The data originates from standardized measurements conducted on control and treatment plots under different wollastonite application gradients (0, 2.5, 5, 10 t ha⁻¹), presented in the form of numerical tables, charts, and statistical analysis results (means, standard errors, significance differences). Data accuracy is ensured through replicated sampling (n=4) and standardized laboratory analytical methods. Covering the major crop production systems (rice and soybean) in Northeast China, this dataset systematically reveals the multiple effects of medium-to-low dose (5 t ha⁻¹) wollastonite application, including crop yield increase, soil improvement, CO₂ sequestration (through aboveground phytolith-occluded carbon and belowground soil inorganic carbon accumulation), and enhancement of agricultural product safety (heavy metal inhibition).

It provides comprehensive and crucial empirical data support for evaluating the agronomic feasibility, ecological benefits, and environmental risks of ERW technology in this region.
