Outpatient Activity

An outpatient is a patient who attends a clinic for a short appointment – this may be for a consultation with a specialist healthcare professional, a test, scan or a procedure/treatment.
Description
This does not require an overnight stay. Outpatient attendances are categorised as new or return (follow-up).
Outpatient data within this publication are for consultant-led activity only. Please note that there have been outpatient methodological changes. Previously, the ISD(S)1 outpatients data source was used for return outpatient activity due to poorer completeness for historical SMR00 return outpatients.
