Uniform Parole Reports (UPR)

This series contains microdata on persons who, while serving a maximum sentence of one year or more in a correctional institution, were released as a result of discretionary action by a paroling authority to serve their sentence under active parole supervision in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, or Canada. Only some agencies originally participated in the program.

By 1975 participation in t he program by parole agencies of the United States was complete, but several of the largest agencies reported on only a random sample of their parolees and not all agencies reported every year. Data recorded on each parolee in the UPR include: name, identification number, birth date, sex, ethnic group, agency releasing and agency supervising, effective date of sentence, type of sentence, date of admission to confinement from which paroled, type of admission, offense, prior prison sentences, prior sentences other than prison, history of drug and alcohol misuse, date of release to parole supervision, length of time under parole supervision, parole performance during parole, new offense, date of discharge or death, and derived fields including age, time served, and time to violation.
