This dataset provides tracking, activity, and reproductive outcomes for black-browed albatrosses (Thalassarche melanophris) breeding on Canyon des Sourcils Noirs, Kerguelen archipelago, and wandering albatrosses (Diomedea exulans) breeding on Possession Island, Crozet Islands archipelago.
Description
The dataset includes two types of tracking data: (i) Activity data (GLS): Collected from British Antarctic Survey (Mk4, Mk5, Mk9, Mk15, Mk19) and Biotrack/Lotek (MK3006) geolocator (GLS) loggers.
Loggers were attached by cable-tie to a plastic leg ring mounted on the tarsus and remained attached for 1-3 years. The activity (wet/dry) data are stored in two different formats: a. Tags sampled every 3 seconds, with the number of wet samples summed into 10-minute bins. b.

Tags sampled continuously, recording only on transition from wet to dry state. (ii) Global positioning system (GPS) data: Collected collected using i-gotU GT-120/600, X-GPS, and Centurion loggers. GPS fixes were taken via satellite every 1-60 minutes, depending on logger configuration.
Each row of either dataset refers to a particular sample (activity data) or fix (GPS data) for a given individual. All data are associated with the simple reproductive success (success or failure) of the tracked individual during the specific year of tracking. All files are provided in CSV format.
Sample sizes Black-browed albatrosses: 170 individuals with activity (GLS) data; 157 individuals with GPS data. Wandering albatrosses: 180 individuals with activity (GLS) data; 567 individuals with GPS data. (2026-06-24)
