During the occupation he was treasurer of the Utrecht student fraternity Unitas. He was employed by the Central Distribution Office and was therefore able to provide many people with distribution coupons, ration cards and identity cards. He gives a detailed report of how this was worked out.

He also had a Jewish girlfriend, together with whom he was once arrested.
