Replication data for Fig 14.10, GPDs, Males and females, survivorship vs body mass (X2) , 07 May 2026
Listed in data.InDoRES
GPD data from this file used for TWO graphs in Fig 14.10 of Hoogland 2016.
Description
The upper left graph of Fig 14.10 shows GPD adult body mass during the mating season vs the percentage of males and females that survived until the next mating season The upper right graph of Fig 14.10 shows adult female GPD body mass at first juvenile emergences vs the percentage of females that survived until the next mating season File name = Fig 14.10, GPDs, Males and females, survivorship vs body mass (X2) , 07 May 2026 Longer File name = Fig 14.10, GPDs, Males and females, survivorship vs body mass during mating season and at first juvenile emergences, 07 May 2026 OLD File name = Fig 14.10, GPDs, males and females, survivorship vs body mass, 08 March 2025 OLD File name = GPDs, Adult wt vs survivorship, 11 Sept 2020 These data are from Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO) NO DATA from Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC) and Visitor Center Colony (VCC), both at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP) This file started with file = GPDs, PEFO bodywts from Julia Phillip, 10 Aug 2020 If we first marked a GPD of unknown age and it lived for >=4 years, I assigned an age of 3 for the third year and an age of 4 for the 4th year.
I did NOT assign an age for the first or second year. I will use NO DATA for survivorship from 1995 until later, because my last year of research at PEFO was 1995. SOME DATA from 1995 are here, but I did not use any of them for Fig 14.10 for GPDs.

In general I did not use any weights after 15 April in any year. In a few cases, however, I used data for a few days after 15 April. I did NOT use data from females that were obviously far along in pregnancy (e.g., med teats) or for any males that copulated before 15 April.
I did use a few weights for a few nonbreeding yearling males and for a few females that were NOT far along in pregnancy (e.g., no teats, tiny teats, or small teats for females). These few GPDs emerged from hibernation late and copulated late. Similarly, in general I did not use any weights before 15 May in any year.
In a few cases, however, I use data a few days before 15 May. I cannot figure out the identity of the dog with eartag = A48A in 1994. So I ignore this GPD.
In 1994, I marked two GPD females with marker = 68. For this EXCEL file, I call one 68#1 (Q1-Q3, Q2; and the other 68#2 (S75, S76) This file has been checked two times by JLH over week of 01 Sept 2020. On 11 Sept 2020, this file has now been checked TWO TIMES--ready for analyses.
On 15 June 2020, body mass for Fem-113 (W37, W38) for Wt>15 May changed from 590 to 620 (Line 1292)--verified on 26 Feb 2022 I do not add new data for Fem-142 (T91, T92) because ID here is not certain--verified on 26 Feb 2022 I DID add data for Fem-142 (T91, (21) for comparison of June body mass vs litter--verified on 26 Feb 2022 or no litter, because positive ID for survivorship not needed for that analysis. I considered data from the same GPD in different years to be independent All data here from PEFO--no data from RMC or VCC Note on 13 Sept 2020: I must add data from RR3 (H53) from 1992-- change verified on 26 Feb 2022 Watch for possible confusion with case 699 (C14#2, U23, U24) Note on 13 Sept 2020: I also must add data from female-64 (J87 goes to M21) for 1992--verified on 26 Feb 2022 Changes for W37, T91, H53, and J87 all verified on 22 Feb 2022.
Notes on 16 March 2022 GPD-RR3 (H53) IS in this file, but was listed as MALE in Sept 2020. On 16 March 2022, I change sex to Female GPD Female-64 (J87 goes to M21) IS in this EXCEL file. GPD Male (R52) 183A IS in this EXCEL file, but sex was wrong.
On 16 March 2022, I change sex to Male. OLDFile name = GPDs, Adult wt vs survivorship, 16 March 2022 I consider data from the same GPD in different years to be independent. These data used for Figure 14.10 in Hoogland 2026.
This file ready for longterm storage on 08 March 2025. The number above each circle in Fig 14.10 indicates the number of males weighed and then tracked for survivorship. Age = number of years since first emergence from the natal nursery-burrow Survivorship = 0 = GPD male or female did NOT survive until the next mating season Survivorship = 1 = GPD male or female DID survive until the next mating season Reprod status = Reproductive status PS = pigmented scrotum, which indicated that GPD male was sexually mature PSDT = pigmented scrotum, descended testes, which indicated that GPD male was sexually mature NO PS = NO pigmented scrotum = male was not sexually mature SPS = slightly pigmented scrotum, which indicated that GPD male probably was NOT sexually mature Lac = lactating, which indicated that a GPD mother had live, nursing offspring LDF = long, dry, and flat teats, which indicated that a mother lost all her offspring to predation or infanticide in late lactation Skain GPD = GPD captured and marked by Susan Kain in here independent research in 1990 Male body mass during mating season = Marchwt in earlier files Male body mass at first juvenile emergences = Junewt in earlier files Wt = weight = body mass All body masses in GRAMS.
Note
For my analyses, I only used GPD data for GPD females from 1989 through 1994, because plague struck the GPD study-colony in 1995, so survivorship of adult GPD females from 1995 to 1995 was unreliable. So, I specified year <=1994 for all statistical analyses for annual survivorship of GPD females. File name = Fig 14.10, GPDs, Males and females, survivorship vs body mass (X2) , 07 May 2026
