Abstract

A single specimen (128.3 mm standard length) of Saurida fortis Furuhashi, Russell et Motomura, 2022, previously recorded only from Japan, Taiwan and the Gulf of Thailand, was recently collected off Johor, east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Described in detail, the specimen represents the first record of S. fortis from Malaysia, being the southernmost record of the species. However, records of S. fortis from the Gulf of Thailand were excluded from the distribution of that species, the specimens being possibly misidentified as S. micropectoralis.
