Application Research of Artificial Intelligence Consumables Management System in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery

Listed in ScienceDB

To investigate the application efficacy of an artificial intelligence-based medical consumables management system in pediatric orthopedic surgery and evaluate its value in improving management efficiency, controlling operational costs, and ensuring clinical safety.

Description

A prospective cohort study was conducted, involving children who underwent closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP) for humeral fractures in the pediatric orthopedics department of our hospital from August to December 2024 and from August to December 2025.

Participants were divided into an AI management group (n=92) and a traditional management group (n=119) based on management approach. Differences between the two groups were compared regarding key indicators including punctual delivery rate, delivery accuracy, acceptance time, response time, satisfaction level, interception rate, and error rate. Compared with the traditional management group, the AI management group demonstrated significantly improved punctual delivery rate and delivery accuracy of medical consumables (P<0.05), significantly shorter acceptance and response times (P<0.001), and significantly higher satisfaction scores across four dimensions: convenience of requisition procedures, satisfaction with waiting duration, emergency response speed, and satisfaction with physical item matching (P<0.001).

Additionally, the AI management group exhibited a higher consumable interception rate than the traditional group while having a lower error rate. The AI-based medical consumables management system significantly optimizes the management process for pediatric orthopedic surgeries, effectively enhances management efficiency and service quality, reduces operational error risks, and demonstrates strong clinical applicability and potential for widespread adoption.
