Addressing misogyny: the law, hate crime and new feminist approaches

Recent reviews of hate crime legislation in all three legal jurisdictions of the UK have considered legal reforms to ‘make misogyny a hate crime’.
Description
This socio-legal research will investigate the concept of misogyny in both feminist theory (Manne, 2018) and the practice of legislators, feminist advocacy organisations and Violence Against Women and Girls service providers. It will map conceptualisations of misogyny, asking what potential current hate crime legislation has to effectively respond to misogyny, before developing the emerging field of feminist legislating as a methodology for approaching feminist legal reform.
