The agency created these files to obtain information on the changing circumstances of aged and disabled beneficiaries.

Description

This series contains survey results from a periodically administered topical survey. A 1982 survey has information from a sample of persons who began receiving Social Security benefits during a 12-month period in 1980-81 and contains information on demographic characteristics, employment, marital and childbearing histories, household composition, health, income and assets , program knowledge and information about spouses.

A followup survey in 1991 has information from the surviving original sample persons and surviving spouses of original sample persons. It has updated information from the first survey and contains additional sections on family contacts, postretirement employment, economic status, health and household moves. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
