VCI - Airborne LiDAR data of Mormal, Blois and Aigoual forests

This indicator is obtained using LiDAR data which were carried out in June-July 2021. VCI quantifies the vertical layering of the vegetation (van Ewijk et al., 2011).

It is a fixed normalisation of the Shannon Index, ranging from 0 and 1 : - values close to 0 = a very uneven distribution of vegetation points => most vegetation points are located at the same height, within a single layer, - values close to 1 = a very even distribution of vegetation points throughout the profile => most height bins have an equal amount of vegetation, suggesting many overlapping layers.
