Family Food Expenditure Survey, 1996 [Canada]: Detailed Household File

Household File. The household file provides summary level food category information at a weekly level (either week one or week two or both if available) and also socio-economic characteristics of the household. The food expenditures are presented by specific food item purchased from stores, locally and on day trips.

Records may be linked using the variable identification number. The 1996 survey was designed to provide information for persons living in private households in the ten provinces of Canada as well as Whitehorse and Yellowknife. Users should note that data on all expenditures for 1996 were collected in a separate survey - the Family Expenditure Survey (FAMEX).

The 1996 Food Survey had the same coverage as the 1996 Family Expenditure Survey. A public-use microdata file has also been produced from the 1996 Family Expenditure Survey. In order to maintain respondent confidentiality, records from Whitehorse and Yellowknife have been excluded from both 1996 files.

There are two main files (the household file and the detailed food file).
