The valorisation of effluent from the hydrometallurgical upgrade of iron ore

Listed in ZivaHub

Iron ore contains aluminium, silicon, and phosphorus as gangue elements that adversely affect ore quality.

Description

Alkaline leaching used for chemical beneficiation generates highly alkaline effluents containing dissolved sodium aluminosilicate and phosphate species. This thesis investigates the valorisation of these effluents through the synthesis of hydroxycancrinite zeolite and calcium aluminium silicate hydrate (C–A–S–H).

The produced materials were characterised and evaluated as adsorbents for the removal of metal ions from aqueous solutions, demonstrating a sustainable waste-to-resource approach.
