The agency created and maintained this index to improve access to the information it collected about mine operators.
Description
This series consists of an index file to information about mining businesses and their operations. This master index file includes the mine identification number, the company owning the mining operation, the location of the mine, standard industry classification codes for the commodities mined, and the number of shops, preparation plants, and pits associated with the mining operation.
The Department of the Interior Bureau of Mines maintained this series during 1972 and early 1973. The Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration maintained this series from 1973 to 1978. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
