Employment Survey for Scientists and Engineers

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

Description

The agency designed the Employment Survey for Scientists and Engineers to gain a factual understanding of the professional employment situation in a period of "economic readjustment." The agency used the survey to measure the changes in employment status for scientists and engineers from March 1970 to March 1971 and to determine the educational, professional, and occupational characteristics of those who were unemployed or underemployed.

This series consists of two files; one for scientist s and a second for engineers. Items differ somewhat between the two files, but include name, date of birth, sex, educational background, specialties, employment, employment status, date status began, weeks unemployed between March 1970 and March 1971, and prior professional employment for those unemployed or employed in non-professional employment. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
