Awards Information Management System (AIMS) Files

The agency developed AIMS to support the processing of all award recommendations submitted for approval by the Navy and Marine Corps.
Description
These awards consisted of individual awards approved for sailors, marines, and Department of Navy civilians and unit awards approved for Navy and Marine Corps activities. Data from AIMS was used to produce letters about approved awards; certificates; monthly statistics for the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and the Commandant of the Mari ne Corps; and various reports including ad hoc reports.
This series consists of two file types. The Individual Awards or History file type contains information about awards and decorations of honor given to military and civilian personnel. The data include the name of the recipient, grade, Social Security Number, award recommended, award approved, and the date of approval.

The Participating Commands file type contains information about awards given to units. The data include the name of the unit, award recommended, award approved, date approved, dates of eligibility, and a summary of the citation. The file includes records of awards from Operation Provide Comfort, 1991 (Kurdish Autonomous Region); Operation Southern Watch, 1992-2003 (Iraq); Operation Deny Flight, 1993-1995 (Kosovo, Bosnia and Hercogovina); Operation Uphold Democracy, 1994-1995 (Haiti); and Operation Desert Fox, 1998 (Iraq).
