Combat Air Summary Files (OPREA)

The information came from daily reports submitted by the U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV). The reports generated from these data informed the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and in some cases the general public, on the progress o f air missions during the Vietnamese Conflict.

The series contains data on air warfare missions flown over Southeast Asia during the Vietnamese Conflict. Each record corresponds to an air sortie and includes the date, the military service flying the aircraft, the carrier taskforce if applicable, the country and the area of the country where the sortie was flown, the kind of aircraft flown (i.e. military airplane or helicopter type), weather data, and material tonnage and troops carried.
