This report details the lives of those who are working to protect the rights and meet the needs of young children around in the world, in the face of poverty, war, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Description
It contains several sections. The first makes the case for investing in the earliest years of childhood, discussing the importance of early childhood development (ECD) programmes.
The second section looks more specifically at early childhood care in the context of violence, conflict, poverty and HIV/AIDS. The final segment describes different experiences in industrialized and developing countries of innovative child care programmes, highlighting again the success of ECD. Additionally, the report contains statistics about child development, and country profiles of nations including Jamaica, Macedonia, Malawi, Turkey, Peru, the Philippines, Maldives, and Jordan.
