This information provided an overview of sentencing in a jurisdiction and supplied a baseline against which the impact of changes in sentencing codes and practices could be assessed. The agency arranged for the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research to prepare the data and documentation for public use.

This series contains data from 18 felony courts about sen tences handed down in courts of general jurisdiction for selected crimes of homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, and drug trafficking. The files also include information regarding the administration of criminal justice, such as how the conviction of the criminal occurred. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
