Human- and LLM-Generated Advertisement Explanations Annotated for Content and Framing (Viewer vs. Advertiser Perspectives)

This dataset contains 1,152 short "Why am I seeing this ad?" explanations for targeted video-on-demand advertisements, produced by human participants and by two large language models (GPT-4o and Gemma2), each writing from either a viewer or an advertiser perspective.
Description
Every explanation is annotated with a unified coding scheme capturing what scenario features it mentions (and whether explicitly) and how it frames them (content-based vs. user-based reasoning, qualities, uniqueness, emotions, lifestyle, advertising, and demographics).
The data accompany a manuscript currently under review at ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems ("'Unlock your full potential': Comparing Human- and LLM-Generated Ad Explanations across Viewer and Advertiser Perspectives"). The human explanations were originally collected in a preregistered study published as Zilbershtein, Barile, Odijk, and Tintarev, "Bridging the Transparency Gap: Exploring Multi-Stakeholder Preferences for Targeted Advertisement Explanations," IntRS'24 @ RecSys 2024, CEUR-WS Vol. 3815 (arXiv:2409.15998).
