Smart home notification sounds on multilevel user response patterns

Listed in ScienceDB

This study examined the effects of type, meaning awareness, and sound-source presentation of notification sounds on cognitive processing, subjective perception, and behavioural tolerance in a virtual smart home environment.

Description

A total of 90 participants were allocated to a 3 × 2 between-subjects design comprising three sound-source presentation conditions (smart speaker, robot vacuum, and hidden sound source) and two meaning-awareness conditions (informed and uninformed), with four notification sounds serving as within-subject stimuli.

Auditory event-related potentials (ERPs), subjective ratings, and repeated-exposure tolerance behaviour were recorded.
