Collaborative Aesthetics in Global Sound Art

Funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation 2021-26 and hosted at the research Division of the Bern Academy of the Arts, the project examined how the "collaborative turn" influences the production of sonic and aural knowledge in the Global South. By employing a transdisciplinary framework that integrated archival, ethnographic, and co-creative methods, the project provided visibility to post-digital sound practices as dynamic cultural meanings shaped by global forces.

Central to this inquiry was a re-evaluation of collaboration as a mechanism for mediating social knowledge, achieved through a detailed study of the institutional contexts, microsocialities, and transnational networks that underpin experimental sound production.
