National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972 Files

This series consists of social survey files with information on students, teachers, schools, secondary education and higher education from a sample of students from different high schools from the class of 1972. The data includes educational, vocational, and personal information for the sample, such as family background, high school and post-secondary educational activities, employment, family status, and opinions on education, career and perception of self.

The 1986 Teacher Supplement contains responses to questions posed to teachers regarding their choice of becoming a teacher, education, areas of certification, experience, salary, time spent on teaching and other activities, professional history and information on their school and its requirements for students. The 1972 Principal and Counselor file contains information on the sampled schools, their enrollment, classification of and accommodation for handicapped, student and faculty demography, number of graduates, participation in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and Vocational Education Act programs, teachers, facilities, proximity to trade schools, universities and colleges, qualifications and activities of counselors, counseling, and the form of grades given.
