A Study of Voting Behavior and Political Democratization in Taiwan: the 1992 Election for the Members of Legislative Yaun (Face to Face Interview)

Thus, this election marked the first complete election of the Legislative Yuan and also the first time that the membership of the legislature completely reflected current popular opinion in over forty years. This research projected collected a broad range of variables which could possibly affect a voter\'s attitudes or behavior, such as media contact, political trust, interest in politics, contact with campaign activities, etc.

This research project involved a face to face survey with all eligible voters in the Taiwan area as the target population. Using towns (hsiang, chen, shih, chu) as the basic unit, we divided the population into seven strata according to the amount of change in the DPP\'s vote share from the 1989 Legislative Yuan elections to the 1991 National Assembly elections. Then, in accordance with the principle of proportional probability sampling, a total of 30 towns and 141 villages (tsun, li) were sampled.
