Fiber-degrading enzymes improved egg production, quality, and apparent retention of components in post-peak Lohmann Brown-Classic laying hens fed a high-fiber diet

Listed in Borealis

This study tackled the challenge of maintaining egg production and nutrient utilization in post-peak laying hens fed high-fiber diets.

Description

High-fiber ingredients can reduce nutrient availability by increasing digesta viscosity, limiting access of digestive enzymes to nutrients, and shifting nutrient use toward hindgut fermentation rather than productive performance. The study therefore evaluated whether fiber-degrading enzymes could improve egg production, egg quality, and apparent nutrient/component retention in Lohmann Brown-Classic hens during the post-peak laying period.
