The Weight of the "Unseen" - A short film by Zainab Ali

Listed in figshare

<p dir="ltr">The weight of the 'Unseen'" is a short film exploring the invisible barriers, psychological toll, and sensory fatigue caused by spaces and digital environments that lack universal design.

Description

Through symbolic narration and visual storytelling, it highlights how societal assumptions act as a hidden tax on individuals with invisible disabilities and anxiety. Advocating for genuine empathy and inclusion, the film reminds viewers that true accessibility is about creating spaces where everyone can exist safely without asking for permission.

This film was a finalist for the 2026 GAAD Accessibility Film Festival.</p><p dir="ltr">"Living with depression, anxiety, and OCD can feel like running a marathon while everyone else is just walking to lunch. This film uses visual metaphors like heavy shadows and jagged lines to show the "invisible" battles that happen behind closed doors and in public spaces. I wanted to move the conversation beyond physical ramps and elevators to show that accessibility is also about how we treat one another.
