Dataset on species diversity of soil mites and Collembola in a mountain forest in the eastern Loess Plateau under simulated warming: a case study of Luyashan Mountain
Listed in ScienceDB
The mountainous regions of eastern Loess Plateau exhibit high sensitivity to global warming, and their ecosystem function may undergo significant changes with rising temperatures.
Description
Soil mesomicro arthropods are core components of the underground food web. They respond quickly to changes in temperature and humidity, which makes them effective biological indicators for monitoring habitat disturbance.
In order to measure this response and to improve the sharing and reuse value of long-term ecological data from Luyashan Mountain, we set up a field experiment in August 2019. It took place in a Larix gmelinii var. principis-rupprechtii forest in the Luyashan National Nature Reserve, Shanxi Province, China. Open-top chamber (OTC) were deployed at three elevations (2 222 m, 2 395 m, and 2 571 m) with three treatments: control (CK), low-level warming (OTCL, +0.26 ℃), and high-level warming (OTCH, +0.31 ℃), totaling 27 sampling plots.

Soil fauna in the surface layer (0–20 cm) were extracted using the Tullgren funnel method and identified to the species level. Synchronously, six key soil physicochemical indicators, including pH, soil organic matter (SOM), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total potassium (TK) and soil water content (SWC), were measured. A total of 473 soil mites (22 species) and 432 soil collembolans (7 species) were identified.
The dataset consists of five excel sheets: (1) Species composition of soil mites; (2) Diversity indices of soil mites; (3) Species composition of soil Collembola; (4) Diversity indices of soil Collembola; and (5) Soil environmental factors. The data size is approximately 24 KB. This dataset fills the observational gap in the belowground biodiversity response to warming in Loess Plateau forests, providing essential baseline data for the parameterization of ecosystem models and biological evaluations of climate change.
