Discovering the mesophotic fauna of Malpelo Ridge: biodiversity insights in a remote marine sanctuary

Based on real time remote and in situ observations, as well as biological samples collected at selected sites, this work contributes essential baseline information and highlights the need to incorporate mesophotic habitats in conservation planning, ecosystem-based management, and long-term monitoring strategies in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) of the Colombian Pacific.

A summary of 591 records is linked to the 20 sampling stations described in the associated event table. Additionally, to supplement the occurrences, a total of 828 data records for other variables—such as count, organism type, life stage, vitality, sampling equipment, and vessel—are provided, which are detailed in the extended measurement or facts table (eMoF). Additionally, as supporting evidence, 70 images are provided in the simple multimedia extension, which is also included in the resource.
