Tree species and size from 121 0.04 hectare plots in the Mont Saint-Hilaire Biosphere Region collected May-July 2023

The data includes the plot id, the species, and diameter at breast height (DBH, 1.3 meters above the ground, reported in centimetres) for each individual tree as well as the land use category the plot is located in: private forest, publicly accessible forest, private nonforest, publicly accessible nonforest.

The nonforest category includes trees on lands that are residential yards, agricultural areas, and in parks and golf courses. The plot locations were generated in ArcGIS Pro using the random point generator pre-stratified into the four land use categories and restricted to treed areas as determined by areas where Quebec provincial lidar showed tree cover of 2m or greater in height. In each plot we identified every tree larger than 2.5 cm DBH and multi-stemmed trees were consolidated and treated as one tree as per Magarik et al. (2020).
