Occurrence records of Synalpheus pandionis and Periclimenaeus perlatus in the South Atlantic

Listed in GBIF

This dataset contains four voucher-based occurrence records of two caridean shrimps, Synalpheus pandionis Coutière, 1909 (Alpheidae) and Periclimenaeus perlatus (Boone, 1930) (Palaemonidae), collected at two nearby localities on the continental shelf at the entrance of Baía de Todos os Santos, Bahia, Brazil.

Description

The specimens were collected by scuba diving at a depth of 22 m on 9 January 2024 from the sponges Mycale (Zygomycale) angulosa (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864) and Aplysina fistularis (Pallas, 1766).

Each specimen is represented by a separate preserved-specimen occurrence record and is deposited in the crustacean collection of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (CRUST-IEO). The dataset includes geographic, taxonomic, collection, sex, body-size, and sequence-accession information. These records support a study documenting South Atlantic range extensions of both shrimp species using an integrative taxonomic approach (de Carvalho-Souza et al. 2026).
