Historical Anthropogenic Emissions 1890-1990, EDGAR-HYDE

The calculated emissions on a country basis have been interpolated onto a 1 degrees x 1 degrees grid. This consistent data set can be used in trend studies of tropospheric trace gases and in environmental assessments, for example, the analysis of historical contributions of regions and countries to environmental forcing like the enhanced greenhouse gas effect, acidification, and eutrofication. The database focuses on energy/industrial and agricultural/waste sources: for completeness, historical biomass-burning estimates where added using a simple and transparent approach.

Regional emissions for every 10 year are provided for the following source categories: Fossil fuel combustion Fossil fuel production Biofuel combustion Industrial processes (i.e. non-combustion) Animals Agricultural land Savanna burning Deforestation Agricultural waste burning Landfills After completion of this dataset, EDGAR 3.2 data for 1990-1995 (1970-1995 for direct greenhouse gases) have become available with updated emissions and expanded source categories.

To take account of these revised estimates for recent years, the original EDGAR-HYDE 1.3 dataset have been adjusted to the new EDGAR estimates for 1970 onwards, including new sources not included in the original 100 year dataset. See: "rivm.nl/"
