The data in this dataset was collected by the NGO Associação de Pesquisa e Preservação de Ecossistemas Aquáticos (Aquasis), and contains opportunistic sightings of American manatees recorded in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, and Piauí, by Aquasis team and trained volunteers.
