Moravian Museum - Herbarium BRNM

Listed in GBIF

Herbarium of the Moravian Museum (BRNM) currently houses more than 1,000,000 specimens of bryophytes, vascular plants, fungi, lichens, and algae.

Description

Established in 1818, the collection has expanded continuously and is now the third-largest herbarium in Czechia. While the collection has been primarily built by its curators and collaborating Moravian botanists, it has also grown substantially through international exchange.

The herbarium primarily focuses on Central Europe, particularly Czechia and Slovakia, but it contains specimens from around the world. Nomenclatural types and original material are represented by hundreds of specimens. A notable part of the collection is the herbarium of K. K. Münch-Bellinghausen from the early 18th century.
